The Annual Meeting of Downers Grove Downtown Management Corporation was held at Capri Restaurant in Downers Grove, on September 1st. Downtown Property owners, Downtown business owners, members of the Downers Grove Village Council & Village staff, as well as Illinois Representative for the 81st District, David Olsen, were all present to hear about the past year in Downtown Downers Grove and what is on the horizon for the near future.

 

Linda Kunze, Executive Director, happily announced that the Downtown Retail is at 99% occupancy and office space is at 98% occupancy. Downtown Downers Grove welcomed the following businesses to our Downtown Community in the last year. The new retail businesses are Briosa Boutique, Francia Bridal & Formal Wear, Mia’s Cantina and RTT Cycle Shop. The new service businesses occupying the office space in Downtown Downers Grove are: Ameritest, BlueStem Housing Partners, Fair House Buyers, Mack Communications, Watts of Love, Dana Santi Pilates, Spenga Fitness Studio, Deborah M. Martinez, Attorney at Law, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Integrated Audiology Care, Opus Financial Solutions, The Marquis on Maple sales office, Opus Financial Solutions, Midwest Chaplain Services, Keller Williams and Teach Beyond will be opening soon. A few businesses found relocated to different spaces in the downtown Beauty on Main and Caribbean Corner and Oakley Home Builders Corporate office. Wenzel Select Properties has purchased a building and will be relocating to the north side of Main Street.

 

Downtown Downers Grove will soon be home to a handful of new multifamily residential buildings. The New 922 is 28 new luxury townhomes which recently completed their building and only couple remain available. Marquis on Maple is in the midst of being constructed and will be home to 55 luxury condominiums. This month Holladay Properties, is planning on breaking ground for Burlington Station, which will be located at 5100 Forest Ave. Burlington Station will be home to 87 luxury apartments and a beautiful courtyard for relaxing and entertaining. Later this fall Trammel Crowe is planning on breaking ground on a 115 unit luxury apartment building. Main & Maple, will begin construction of the 115 luxury apartments at the north east corner of Main & Maple. This building will have a second floor outdoor pool for the residents of the building. In spring of 2017, Adriatic Grove is hoping to begin their project of reinvesting in Downtown Downers Grove. The building owners will tear down their existing building and rebuild a new multi-use building, with 49 apartments. They will take down an existing building and rebuild a new multi-use building. This will be located at the north east corner of Washington and Curtiss.

 

Linda, mentioned that we have our 40th Annual Fine Arts Festival, September 10-11, 2016, 10am-5pm. We would like to thank D3 Financial Partners and the Downers Grove Visitors Bureau for sponsoring as well as our Friends of the Show, Beil & Stromberg, My Special Toy Store, Smile Downers Grove, Timberland Train Shop and the Tivoli Theater & Tivoli Bowl. This event will quickly be followed by Girls’ Day Out on September 29th and will benefit the Public and Private school, PTA’s in Downers Grove.

 

Mayor, Martin Tully thanked all the property owners and business owners as well as Linda Kunze and Erin Venezia, of Downtown Management, for making the Downtown the heart of our community. Without all the time and dedication of everyone in the room the downtown would not be as vibrant as it is today. Hosting a great variety of small businesses. Mayor Tully informed the attendees on the discussion of changes to the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning, as it pertains to Downtown Downers Grove.

 

The Membership elected Kathy Burns (The (Business Owner: My Special Toy Store), Maureen Grand (Business Owner: Style Studio) and Phil Stromberg (Property Owner: Beil & Stromberg Insurance) to the Downers Grove Downtown Management’s Board of Directors, they will serve a 3 year term.
