DuPage County Officials Warn of the Dangers of Heroin and Fentanyl

County Board Chairman Dan Cronin hosted a press conference with Coroner Dr. Richard Jorgensen, State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Hanover Park Deputy Police Chief Andrew Johnson representing the DuPage Chiefs of Police Association and DuPage County Health Department Executive Director Karen Ayala to discuss the growing danger of heroin and the painkiller fentanyl.

In 2015, the DuPage Narcan Program saved 62 people who were overdosing on heroin or fentanyl. Through early June 2016, the DuPage Narcan Program already reports 64 overdose reversals.

Board Celebrates Sales Tax Reduction

DuPage Water Commission Chairman Jim Zay and County Board ChairmanDan Cronin celebrated the quarter-cent reduction of the County sales tax on June 1 with a cake shaped like a penny. Cronin cut a quarter of the cake away to symbolize the amount of savings.

Board Eliminates Street Lighting District

County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and Members of County Board District 5 celebrated after passing a resolution to dissolve the Century Hill Street Lighting District in Naperville.

The County’s Division of Transportation will assume all assets and service responsibilities for the district. The district voted in April to dissolve itself, and the County Board voted to approve the dissolution in June.

Clear the Shelters – July 23
DuPage County Animal Care and Control will participate in the nationwide event “Clear the Shelters” on Saturday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in collaboration with NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago. The event encourages residents to visit a participating shelter near them and consider if adoption is the right option for them. For more information, visit www.cleartheshelters.com.

Benefit Concert in the Park – August 11
The DuPage Convalescent Center Foundation will host a Benefit Concert in the Park featuring the band, OMT at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Cantigny Park, 1S151 S. Winfield Road, Wheaton. This family-friendly, “Ravinia” style event provides an opportunity to pack a picnic, bring a blanket and listen to music for a good cause. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the residents of the Convalescent Center. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate. Children under the age of 12 are free.
