Country in the Park

As part of the annual Downers Grove Founders Day celebration, Country in the Park is a free event sponsored by The Grove Foundation. Families will visit with farm animals, play 1850’s pioneer-era games, view blacksmithing demonstrations and more!
Summer Concert Series
The Hat Guys (Pop/Rock): May 29 at 7 pm

Fishel Park, 1050 Grove Street, Downers Grove
Thirteen live concerts will bring music to Fishel Park on Tuesday evenings from May 29 through August 21. The free, family friendly concerts will be held at Veterans Memorial Pavilion in Fishel Park located on Grove Street just west of Main Street in Downers Grove. Concerts begin at 7 pm and food, beer and wine sales will begin at 6 pm.
Adult Bags League
May 5 to June 20

Downers Grove Golf Club, 2420 Haddow Ave., Downers Grove
Teams of two will square off in this round robin league. Each team will compete in one or two 3-game matches per night. The league will conclude with a single-elimination tournament. Fee includes one hot dog and one drink per player each night. Registration is required.
Parents Night Out

Are you desperately in need of a night out but have nowhere safe to stash the kids for a few hours? We’ve got you covered. Enjoy an evening away as your children are entertained with a variety of games, movies, crafts and pizza. Please note: Children must be toilet trained. Registration is required one week in advance.
Paint & Sip for Kids!: Mother’s Day

Work with acrylics to create a lovely piece of art to celebrate the holiday! Sip on juice while you and your child follow the steps to making a fun Mother’s Day painting. Moms, spend the time with your budding artist to collaborate on the painting. Dads, bring your budding artist to work together to make a Mother’s Day gift that Mom will be sure to love. This is a parent/child class. One painting per couple. Registration is required.
Mother’s Day at Miner Mike’s Adventure Golf
May 13 from 11 am to 6 pm
Miner Mike’s Adventure Golf, 6801 S. Main St., Downers Grove
Moms golf free with a paid round of miniature golf. Miner Mike’s Adventure Golf welcomes putt-putters of all ages onto its mini golf course for some fun in the sun. To make each game a little more challenging, use the “mischief spinners” that tell players to perform acts such as putting with their eyes closed or putting behind their backs.
Men’s 2018 Basketball League
Mondays and Tuesdays, May 14 to Aug. 14

Our men’s basketball league is for players who want to participate in a traditional open-paced league. Each team plays at least 10 games followed by a playoff series. League play is governed by I.H.S.A. rules and regulations with local exceptions adopted. To be considered a resident team, 60% of team members must pay taxes to the Park District or be employed in Downers Grove. Players must submit copies of their driver’s license or employment pay stub of a company within Park District boundaries. At the time of registration, a $100 deposit is due, as well as a preliminary team roster, including names and addresses of all team members. Roster forms are available online at dgparks.org, at the Recreation Center or the Lincoln Center.
Wild Child in the Parks

We are taking our Wild Child Nature Play Group to the parks! Based on the popular program at Lyman Woods, bring out your child’s wild side, meet new friends and explore nature in the parks! Our naturalist will get you started as you explore nature play with your children at your own pace through outdoor activities and projects. Each week will feature a new nature theme and activities. No charge for infant siblings under 12 months. Dress for the weather and to get messy, but shelters are available if raining. An adult must accompany their children during this program. Registration is required.
Gallery Talks: Packing for Travel

Visit the Downers Grove Museum for a gallery talk on our current exhibit “Are We There Yet? Travels to and from Downers Grove.” Each gallery talk includes a personal tour of the exhibit and a brief presentation on a broader topic related to the exhibit. Light refreshments will be served. Nature Tot Workshop
May 25 and 26 from 9:30 to 10:45 am

Have a crafty tot? Bring them to our nature workshop! Each month we will head outdoors for nature discovery time and then make a project to take home that will encourage kids to interact with nature. Dress for the weather and to get messy! An adult must accompany their child(ren) during this program. Registration is required.
