Olive Theory Pizzeria, located at 1400A Butterfield Road in Downers Grove, celebrates one won-dough-ful first year of business. The pizzeria, founded by life-long Chicagoland resident John Kwok, dedicated its first year in business to giving back to the Downers Grove community and perfecting its fresh, made-to-order pizzas, pie sandwiches and salads.
“I built Olive Theory Pizzeria with the vision of bringing Chicagoland high quality custom pizza and a business that would be dedicated to their community,” said Kwok. “I am proud to say, that after our first year, we have helped thousands of Northern Illinois residents and are providing customers with pizza they love.”
In its first year of business, Olive Theory Pizzeria was rated the top pizza place in Illinois based on Yelp reviews according to BuzzFeed.
Also, through its 1/10 pledge, in which one pizza is donated for every ten pizzas bought, Olive Theory Pizzeria has impacted the community by donating a total of 2,246 pizzas since opening. In their first year the pizzeria has also teamed up with a number of well-respected local organizations that support the community such as Northern Illinois Food Bank, DuPage PADS, Catholic Charities, Downers Grove Area FISH Food Pantry, Elmhurst Yorkfield Food Pantry, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Currently partnered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to distribute “Pledge Pies” to community members who need it the most, the nonprofit is a member of Feeding America and works to solve hunger in northern Illinois through innovative programs and partnerships.
