Residents from Illinois’ 81st Legislative House District who meet income eligibility thresholds can take advantage of a free tax assistance workshop that will be held this Saturday, April 2 in Downers Grove.
State Representative Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove), along with DeVry Education Group and Ladder Up, will offer free tax return preparation on a first come, first served basis to individuals making up to $25,000 per year or households with an income of up to $54,000. The event will be held at the DeVry Education Group’s Downers Grove office, located at 3005 Highland Parkway, from 9:00 AM until noon.
Qualifying filers are recommended to come early, and to bring:
- Social Security Card/ITIN for everyone on the return
- Photo identification
- All 2015 tax documents
- Bank account and routing numbers
- Proof of health insurance coverage or Certificate of Exemption
- A copy of a property tax bill paid in 2015
- Records of college-related expenses
- Last year’s return
“Helping citizens maximize the available deductions on their tax forms ensures that people are keeping as much of their hard-earned money in their pockets as possible,” said Sandack. “The volunteer tax preparers from Ladder Up have an excellent reputation for successful tax preparation work, and I am pleased to help promote this Saturday’s free event, which will be held in the heart of District 81.”
In addition to the tax preparation services, the Sandack office will also be holding extended office hours during the three-hour event, where local residents can receive information about state services.
