South High celebrates its 2018 Homecoming Week beginning Monday, September 17 through Saturday, September 22. Below is a detailed list of events for community members to attend.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating our school with our community during Homecoming Week,” South High Principal Ed Schwartz said. “Part of our celebrations this year includes inducting five new members into our 2018 Class of Distinguished Alumni.”
Thursday, September 20
Distinguished Alumni Ceremony at 5 p.m., Front foyer at main entrance. In addition to the formal ceremony, the Distinguished Alumni will be recognized at the Homecoming assembly and parade.
The Distinguished Alumni Award program recognizes Downers Grove South alumni who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations, and careers have honored the legacy of excellence at South High School. The 2018 Distinguished Alumni honorees include:
- Maudlyne Ihejirika, Chicago Journalist, Class of 1981
- Amy Liss, Motivational Speaker and Volunteer, Class of 2001
- Dr. Robert Roose, Physician Leader, Class of 1997
- Dr. Samir Soneji, Air Force Captain and Public Health Researcher, Class of 1994
- Captain Nicholas Tilbrook, Navy Captain, Class of 1988

Friday, September 21
Homecoming Parade
- 3:15 p.m.
- Route: South on Springside, east on Bolson, north on Dunham
- FREE for all community members!
Homecoming Football Game vs. Addison Trail
- 7:30 p.m., Sophomore game at 5 p.m.
- Location: DGS Stadium
- Tickets: $4 adults, $3 students (kindergarten and up), Seniors 65 and over FREE, District 99 students with ID FREE, District 99 students without their ID pay $3
