In August, People’s Resource Center (PRC) becomes the school supply headquarters for over 800 low-income families in DuPage County. Each year, with generous donations from the community, PRC is able to provide everything from backpacks to spiral notebooks to students at no cost.
From July 1st to July 31st, PRC locations in Wheaton and Westmont will collect new supplies for children and distribute them to pre-selected families in mid-August.
“Helping the kids who come in to pick out backpacks is one of my favorite things to do every year,” says Tonya Latson, PRC’s Director of Social Services. “The younger children are so excited and proud as they walk out with the bag of their choice! Last year a little 6-year-old girl proudly claimed a bag featuring her favorite female Star Wars Jedi hero and she showed it to everyone she saw on her way out (including stopping in offices!) Seeing their happy and excited faces is a wonderful experience.”
To host a supply drive, find posters to personalize on our website at peoplesrc.org/donatesupplies along with the wish list of supplies. Whatever PRC receives will go directly to schoolchildren.
Donations can be delivered by July 31st to the following locations:
People’s Resource Center, 201 S. Naperville Road, Wheaton
People’s Resource Center, 104 Chestnut Avenue, Westmont
